More than 30 varieties of hydrangeas were featured last month at Flower Dome in Gardens by the Bay Singapore.
In this new video, more hydrangeas are shown from all the visits to Flower Dome last month.
Did you know, the availability of aluminum ions in the soil affects the colour of the hydrangeas. In acidic soil (pH below 5.5), aluminium is readily available for the plant to absorb, which produces blue flowers. In alkaline soil (pH above 7), the aluminium is not readily available, resulting in pink blooms.
The name hydrangea comes from the Greek words "hydro" (water) and "angeion" (vessel or jar) as it was inspired by the cup-like shape of its seed pods, and also hydrangeas have high water requirements and can wilt if they dry out.
The big showy colourful parts that look like petals are actually sepals, the protective leaves that surround a flower.
