Ink and Intent He Xiangning at Singapore National Gallery 何香凝：画就丹青凭寄意

From now till 23 August 2026,  National Gallery is showcasing the largest travelling exhibition of He Xiangning's artworks from the He Xiangning Art Museum (China, Shenzhen).

An influential and patriotic artist, He Xiangning raised funds and played an important role in the development of modern China. In this exhibition, let's explore more than 50 ink works and archival materials.

Her inspiring paintings feature the 'Four Gentlemen' namely the bamboo, orchids, chrysanthemums , plum blossoms in traditional Chinese culture. The plum blossoms represent perseverance. In winter, the plum blossoms bloom vibrantly in the cold harsh snow. The orchids (Spring) represent quiet virtue and unpretentious beauty. Bamboo (Summer) signifies integrity and open-mindedness. It bends in the wind but does not break. Chrysanthemums bloom in autumn and stands for humility and contentment.

她那些鼓舞人心的画作以中国传统文中的“四君子”为主题——竹、兰、菊、梅。梅花象征坚韧不拔，寒冬中傲然绽放于凛冽冰雪之中。兰花（春）代表淡泊高洁与谦逊之美。竹（夏）寓意正直与豁达，虽随风而弯却不折断。菊花在秋日盛放，象征谦逊知足。
