Orchid Extravaganza At Singapore Gardens by the Bay 新加坡滨海湾花园兰花盛会

This month on 9 August, Singapore will be celebrating 60 years of independence. At Gardens by the Bay, the flower dome central display will be adorned with Singapore National Flower, the elegant orchids. To be specific, Vanda Miss Joaquim was chosen to be the national flower in 1981 for its "beauty, resilience and year-round blooming quality". It is recorded as Singapore's first orchid hybrid and the world's first Vanda hybrid.

Singapore is a multicultural city state with Chinese, Malay, Indian, Eurasian and also Peranakan who speak Hokkien, Malay and English. This orchid extravaganza features Peranakan culture that is unique in Southeast Asia in addition to orchids. You can click here to read more.

At the Flower dome, there are over 6000 orchid plants across 12 genera display.

I'm a third generation Singaporean Chinese Teochew 潮州 from a traditional Chinese family. At home we converse in Teochew and Mandarin.

Orchid Extravaganza is from now till 31 August this month.

I will upload longer video later this week. Stay tuned.
