Today on 9 August, Singapore is celebrating 60th years of independence. Happy Birthday Singapore! Currently at Gardens by the Bay, the flower dome central display are adorned with orchids. Singapore National Flower is Vanda Miss Joaquim and was it chosen in 1981 for its "beauty, resilience and year-round blooming quality". It is recorded as Singapore's first orchid hybrid and the world's first Vanda hybrid.
Singapore is a multicultural city state with Chinese, Malay, Indian, Eurasian and also Peranakan. This orchid extravaganza features Peranakan culture that is unique in Southeast Asia in addition to orchids. You can click here to read more.
At the Flower dome, there are over 6000 orchid plants across 12 genera display.
Orchid Extravaganza is on display from now till 31 August 2025.
