These bright yellow trumpet-shaped daffodils are a sight to behold. The smaller more delicate types are known as narcissus which comes from a handsome youth in Greek mythology who fell in love with his own reflection and later turned into a flower.
Daffodils bloom in early Spring, often emerging out through snow due to antifreeze-like substance in their cells. They are natural pest repellent as they contain toxic compounds which animals avoid.
There are over 13,000 hybrid varieties and daffodils come in white, orange and pink trumpets and not just yellow.
